About Mark Shelvock (he/him)

I provide reflective, relational-based psychotherapy for people navigating growth, change, and the wild complexities of being human. I’m interested in the deeper patterns that shape our lives and the quiet work of coming to know ourselves more fully.

Over the past decade, my professional path has been shaped by advanced study in human development, psychology, sociology, existential theory, and psychotherapy, alongside years of clinical practice supporting adults through life’s challenges. This work has deepened my respect for the complexity of inner life and reinforced the importance of creating a therapeutic space that feels thoughtful, authentic, and grounded in genuine human connection.

Alongside my clinical work, I’ve spent several years teaching at the university level, where I’ve supported students in exploring the psychological and sociocultural dimensions of suffering, growth in the face of adversity, and how people make sense of difficult experiences. Teaching remains an important part of my professional life, fostering careful thinking, open dialogue, and a deeper appreciation for the many ways people create meaning in their lives.

My writing has reached a wide readership and contributes to ongoing public conversations about psychological life, as well as the evolving culture of psychotherapy. I’m committed to making complex ideas accessible, relevant, and grounded in everyday experience.

Outside of my work, I’m a husband, dog dad, and lifelong creative. I enjoy good espresso, deep conversation, and the kinds of existential questions that most people postpone until later in the day.
